Birth Story

I just realized I never posted their birth story. How did that happen? That makes me sad. I have a short term memory so I'm not going to remember everything now. Boo. I'm going to write everything I remember. Here goes.....

I was scheduled for my C section at 8:30 a.m. on January 25th, 2010. We were told to come in two hours early and that's exactly what we did. I remember feeling really excited and scared at the same time. My life was about to change. I was going to be a mother. For 38 weeks and 3 days, I carried my little miracles inside of me and soon, I was finally going to meet them. Amazing.

We woke up at around 5:30 a.m. It almost felt like we were going on vacation. We already had our bags packed so all that was left was a quick bath to shave the old legs. Yeah. That didn't happen. I couldn't even reach them anymore and by then, I didn't care. I took a quick bath, put on my moisturizer, dressed in my black maternity shirt and my black maternity pants, put on my glasses, grabbed my bags and off we went. We looked around the house at the new swings in our living room. We knew when we returned, they would have two little lives in them. It felt surreal.

We arrived at the hospital on time. My mother in law and father in law was waiting for us in the parking garage. I remember it being cold but I didn't have a coat that fit me. I was pumped anyway. We went in and they put the white bracelet on me. We had to wait about five minutes for the nurse to come and get me. I was only allowed to bring my husband so my mother and father in law stayed in the waiting area. Around that time, my mom was on her way. My dad and brother would be following her shortly after.

Steve and I went back into the prep area. They had me undress and get into a gown. They asked the usual health questions and then started my IV. They also did a quick ultrasound to see where the babies were. The doctor guessed that both babies would be a little over 5 pounds. Little did they know! The anesthesiologist also came in to ask a few questions. By then I started to feel hard contractions. I think it was because of my nerves.

My mom was able to come in for a few minutes. By the time she got there, they were about to wheel me back. We held hands for a few minutes. Said our I love yous and off she went. Steve took that time to go and update his mom and dad that we were getting ready to have some babies! He came back and shortly after, they wheeled me in. It was a short commute. Steve had to stay out in the hallway while they prepped me. I had two of everyone. It was much smaller than I expected. The movies make the rooms seem so big! I asked the one nurse and doctor if I could hold their hands. They said of course. I was scared of the spinal. They prepped me and inserted the needle. I barely felt it! It wasn't bad at all. I soon felt numb. They laid me back and put the sheet up. There was a lady standing at my head the entire time asking me how I was feeling. I liked having her there.

They then asked my husband to come in and proceeded to cut me open. Steve sat down beside me. He asked me if I was doing OK. I said yes. I felt a little weird from the numbing. I was a bit cold too. Nothing too bad. The lady at my head asked if I wanted to see them come out. I said I didn't want to see my guts all over the place. She giggled and said I wouldn't see anything but my babies. I agreed. They broke the first sac. Baby A (Samantha), soon after, they pulled her out head first at 8:43 a.m.. I missed her coming out because the nurse didn't have the mirror facing her correctly. I didn't hear anything at first. I was asking the lady at my head if everything was OK, as she was answering, I heard it. Samantha's first scream. Pure joy in my heart. I then heard the nurse yell out, 6lb 7oz! The doctors, Steve and I all gasped. lol We were thinking 5 lbs. While that was happening, they were breaking Baby B's (Mia's) sac. She had a lot of fluid around her. The doctors actually had to jump back and all I heard was fluid hitting the ground. I also heard the doctor say, Woah!" I giggled a bit from that. I remember seeing Mia's little butt. She was breech. The nurse had the mirror just right this time. I got to see her be born into this world and it was amazing! She had some muconeum in her butt and I freaked at first. The doctor said it was totally normal. I felt much better then. They got her out exactly two minutes after her sister. Mia was born at 8:45 a.m. Again, I didn't hear anything and I could feel the panic set in. I was about to ask the lady at my head again and then there it was. Mia screamed. Pure delight entered my heart. Both my babies were alive! Were OK at that point. What a relief! A few seconds later I hear, 6lb 7oz!!! Steve and I just looked at each other. HUGE smiles on our face! The place was loud at that point. They were all so fascinated that I just delivered TWO 6lb 7oz babies.

It took about five minutes or so for them to bring a baby to us. Samantha was the first one they brought over. Steve held her and just stared at her. She was beautiful. Perfect in every way. He brought her down to my head so I could see her. She crinkled her nose and tried to open her eyes but it was too bright. She let out a little yelp. At that time, they brought Mia over. I got to kiss them both and then off they all went to the recovery room. I felt alone at that moment. The doctors were sewing me up. They kept congratulating me. They were impressed with their sizes and said everything went perfectly. It really did. It didn't take too long for them to finish putting the staples in my belly. As soon as they were finished, they transferred me to another bed on wheels. That was the weirdest feeling since I was totally numb. I was making jokes about falling off the other side of the bed. It really wasn't that bad. Then off we went to recovery.

By that time I was feeling a bit exhausted and in a cloud. I don't remember being wheeled to recovery that well. I do remember hearing babies screaming when I got in there. I asked where my babies were and the nurse said, you can't hear them? LOL Those screaming babies were mine! They were right around the corner getting poked and prodded. Steve was with them taking pictures. About five minutes later they brought Samantha to me. She was so little. She looked like a little old man with a crooked nose. Poor thing. I just kept thinking how lucky I was. She cried softly. I just touched her face, picked up her hat to see if she had any hair under it. She did! Lots! They had her head covered in the operating room. I can't remember how long it was after that. My mom, dad and brother came in. My mom started crying right away. She held Samantha and fell in love instantly. How couldn't you? Mia was still being poked and prodded. She wasn't regulating her temperature very well so that's why it took a little longer. She eventually made it into my recovery room. By then the nurses let my mother and father in law in to see us too. We were in there for only a few more minutes when they said my room was ready. I think I was in recovery for about an hour. Not bad at all! Off we went to my home for the next three nights!

I remember the babies being in the same cart in front of my bed. There was a nurse with the babies and someone carting me down the hallway. My family was behind me. A big train of Murphy's/Denton's. lol There were a lot of people congratulating me and commenting on the twins. I felt like I was in a whirlwind.

We finally got to the room. Everyone settled in for a few more hours. They took the babies to the nursery for about an hour to regulate their temps. At that time, everyone went down to get a bite to eat. I rested. They wheeled the girls back in and I was all alone with them. I asked the nurse to put them in bed with me. She left and at that moment, I felt scared. I was in charge of these two little beings. What if I'm not good at being a mommy? What if I don't know what to do? I had so many things going through my head. It didn't take long for the family to come back into the room and take the babies from me. I let them. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed at that moment. Still in a bit of a fog. They eventually left. Steve and I were alone in my room with these two little miracles. What a blessing. We watched some television for a bit. They came and got the babies around 9pm. At that time, Steve left for the night so I could get some rest. I elected to have them take the babies at night so I could sleep before we got home. I knew everything was going to be harder when we did leave the hospital. Boy was I right.

The three days went fast. Same thing every day. Check my BP, make me get out of bed to pee. Make me roll over on my stomach the second night. That was not fun. I did fall asleep for two hours on my stomach. It was a long time since I did that! I watched a lot of TV. Had some visitors and slept some. Not a lot. The babies were wheeled back and forth from the nursery. Poked and prodded some more. And then the day came. They let us go home.

We were released around 4:00 p.m. I was ready to go. After you have a baby, you get interrupted all the time. Lactose consultants, nurses, food service, cleaning lady. I was definitely ready to go! Steve wheeled me down to the car. I had both babies in my arms. We were stopped several times by people who wanted to see the babies. Lots of comments. Good ones of course. The door man was really sweet. He helped me with the babies while Steve brought the car up. He grabbed a car seat while Steve grabbed the other and helped get them into their bases. Moments later, we were heading home.

And from there, they grew into beautiful little one year old's. It's hard to believe that they are over a year. Time really does fly by fast. I am so grateful to God for giving us our little miracles. I praise Him every day. I feel very lucky.

Praise be to God!

Walking soon?

I think I may have two girls walking soon. At least standing on their own. My girls are so smart and they are trying so hard to stand alone. I clap and make a HUGE deal about it when they do. Mia will stop and clap too. She also speaks her gibberish and gets excited along with me. I think that has helped her try and try again. Samantha stands and then giggles really hard when she tries. Those girls are hilarious!

They are doing really good. Getting so big.

I started a new job last Monday too! I love it! It's closer to home and guess what??? Only 4 days a week so I get an extra day with my munchkins! Yay! I am one happy mommy right now.

I hope all is well with you all!

Hugs and kisses,
Kami

Mia Noelle

Dear sweet Mia AKA Mama Mia, Mia pia punkin eat-a, Chicky punk, dirty dirty, flirty dirty and punk,

You are getting so big!!! For a while there, you were my little peanut. Your tummy was always upset the first few months of your life. You were smaller than your sis. Not anymore! At the doctor last Friday you weighed 23lb 3oz! 4oz smaller than Sammi! You're catching up. But guess what? You're taller than her! 31 inches! Yeah! You are my tall girl. So precious. You are happy and healthy and I praise God daily for that.

You are my serious baby. There is nothing wrong with that! Just like your daddy. You sit back and observe. Your little brain works a mile a minute. You are a thinker for sure. We sit back and watch you try to figure out your little puzzles. You sit there for a long time in your own little world trying to figure out how those shapes get into that elephant. One of your favorite toys.

You get frustrated easily. Just like your mommy. If you can't figure something out, you will cry and cry. Then you come to mommy or daddy for snuggles. We can't help but snuggle you when you're sad. That's what we're here for!

You are a light sleeper. You are the last to go to sleep and the first to wake every morning. Because you are sick, you refused to go to sleep last night. You laid in bed with mommy and daddy for a while. We watched American Idol together. You finally gave up and went to sleep. But of course, you were up bright and early. You little stinker. I hope you can learn to sleep a little longer. For the sake of your sister. You like to have a little party every morning and sing and talk and the top of your lungs. It wakes your sister. You are too cute!

You aren't talking yet. You do say Mama a lot! Yay! You can say Dada too. You don't repeat anything we say and that's just fine! You have always sat back and let Sammi do her thing and then BAM! You catch right up. I'm sure in the next month or so you'll be talking up a storm! You do babble and carry on a conversation with us. It is the cutest thing. My favorite actually. I love talking to you.

You have 12 teeth!!! You go girl! And I never even knew your molars came in. Crazy! You have always been great during teething. I never know when you have teeth unless I get in there to feel.

You are cruising all over the place. You can stand alone for a second. No walking yet. You do really well walking while holding only one hand. It's a matter of time. Oh, and I can't forget to tell you that you climbed the stairs for the first time the other night! Good job honey!

Mommy loves you soooooooooo much little one. You are such a blessing! I thank God for you every day.

Love,
Mommy

Samantha Haley

Dear Samantha AKA Sammi, Sam, Mamer Jamer, Mantha, Samerson, Chicky Punk and Dirty,

You are growing so fast little one! You have been so sick these past few days and it breaks mommy's heart that she had to work and couldn't be with you when you needed her. I want to be with you always. Day and night. You finally broke your fever today and are acting normal! Yay! That makes me happy! Now you can be your bubbly little self again.

You went to the doctor last Friday and you weighed a whopping 23lb 7oz! You were 30 inches long too! You are going to be tall like your daddy! You are a happy and healthy baby. Praise the Lord! Your little giggles make mommy so happy. You have such a bubbly personality. You are always laughing and you are repeating words now. We have to watch what we say these days because you are a little sponge.

You love music and sway back and forth when music starts to play. You do the same when mommy starts to sing. It cracks us up. You also love to snuggle with your stuffies. When mommy says, "Give it a hug!" You do. It is the sweetest thing. You continue to be an awesome sleeper. I feel so bad for you because your sister doesn't sleep as good and wakes you every morning. Let's cross our fingers that Mia gets a bit better at that. I'm sure she will.

You can now say the following words:

Dada
Hi
Hey
Uh Oh
Owwww
Wow
Hi Dad!
Yum

There are others but you say them sporadically. These are the ones I hear from you all the time. Every time anyone walks in the room, you say, "Hi Dad!" It is hilarious. Everyone is Dad to you right now. You are so smart.

You have 6 teeth and are cutting two more! I'm not looking forward to those molars. Their coming and soon! I can feel them in your gums. Poor baby. Mommy will be here to snuggle you.

You are cruising all over the place. No walking yet but you do try to stand on your own and then laugh really hard because you can't. You are so goofy! It's a matter of time!

You are so precious and beautiful. I thank God for you everyday and pray for your health and safety daily. I love you pumpkin.

Love,
Mommy

New Job!!!

I got a new job!!! Yeah!

I am now down to 4 days a week! One extra day with my wee ones! And it's closer to home. 20 minutes as opposed to one hour!

Now I just pray that it is a good job. I am really scared. Sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side. I keep telling myself that God has His plans for me. I need to trust in Him.

I hope all is well with everyone! I have sick babies to tend to. :(
